Botany and Cabinetmaking:
The Art of Bringing Wood into Bloom

For centuries, nature has inspired the sculptor's chisel. Under the artisan's hand, wood comes alive to blossom into botanical motifs: whether perpetuating the furniture heritage of the Somme region with the famous Picardy Rose, resurrecting ancient floral patterns on a pewter dresser, or celebrating the abundance of grapevines through clusters carved in low-relief and along staircase stringers, every creation is a tribute to the living world.

The Picardy Rose

Inspired by the delicate wild rosebud, the Picardy Rose is part of a centuries-old tradition. Carved for over 150 years on regional furniture — and most notably on the traditional low sideboards of the Somme region known as "traites de Vignacourt"— it stands as a testament to a strong artisan identity.

A Symbol Engraved in Wood: The Rose

Crafted as part of a commemorative project, this rose is rendered in high relief on a base with a bold, pronounced grain. The flower reveals itself with remarkable precision: delicately carved thorns along its supple stem, a budding flower, and petals sculpted individually with great finesse. A unique piece filled with symbolism, the blue mark on this oak base originates from the impact of a bomb explosion during the war.

Finely Carved Bouquets and Rosettes

Beyond the wild rose, the art of ornamentation extends to a wide variety of floral compositions. Faithfully reproducing antique pieces—such as the delicate carved bouquets that traditionally adorn pewter dressers (regional furniture designed to display pewterware)—requires an absolute mastery of volume, wood grain, and technique. Each petal and leaf is hand-carved to capture the movement and lightness of nature in noble woods.

Grapevines and Wine: From the Vine to Interior Decor

A symbol of abundance, conviviality, and heritage, the grapevine offers an extraordinarily rich ornamental repertoire for fine cabinetmaking.

The Art of Low-Relief: Generous clusters and foliage hand-carved with a gouge play with shadows and volumes to bring a vivid, remarkably realistic quality to life.
