Picardy furniture
The discreet charm of Picardy country homes is often expressed through handcrafted furniture with simple lines, enhanced by delicate carvings inspired by nature and traditional motifs. The use of local materials and the preservation of ancestral craftsmanship reinforce a strong regional identity, also found in Normandy. These pieces are sturdy, decorative, and designed to last.
Picard furniture includes functional pieces such as the wardrobe, the swan-neck cradle, chairs, armchairs, the étimier, the clock, the bread bin, the pottery rack, the sèage, and the bread table. The central piece of this ensemble is the traditional sideboard, known as the traite picarde. Ornamentation mainly features vegetal motifs and carved bouquets, and sometimes incorporates a heart motif in the so-called marriage traites.

The French word “étimier” comes from the tin pots that were originally stored in this piece of furniture. Its drainer section, with perforated shelves, allowed dishes to be drained. Today, its shallow depth makes it easy to incorporate into modern interiors, even in an entryway or hallway.
